Room Type: Bed & Breakfast

Barley Bin

Originally a storeroom, from where the sacks of flour were loaded into wagons, the Barley Bin is a large sunny room with twin beds (or king-size double) and a sofabed.

On the first floor and facing south, the room has views of the Old Customs House and the village. It has an en-suite wood panelled bathroom with a claw-footed antique bath.

Stone Room

This room was the singer James Blunt’s bedroom when the windmill belonged to his family. The second of the tower rooms has a luxurious bed and spectacular views.

This circular double bedroom, formerly the Stone Room, has a dramatically high ceiling with magnificent oak beams, on which the original grinding stones once turned. It has an en-suite shower, lavatory and hand basin.

There is a private doorway from the bedroom onto the balcony that encircles the Mill, with half of the balcony entirely private for your use – no other guests are allowed onto your section of the balcony. You can sit out here if you wish. The view from the windows in this room, and particularly from the gallery, are nothing short of spectacular.

All guests have access to the gallery via a separate door.

Access to the Wheel Room on the floor above is via a wooden ladder outside the Stone Room and occasional creaking of this ladder may be heard as guests climb to the floor above.

River Room

Originally used to store grain, the River Room is a spacious double bedroom.

A comfortable double bed with white rattan headboard is set in the centre of this painted wood panelled room.

Views on three sides with door opening directly onto the gardens. The room overlooks the River Glaven and the reed beds. It has an en-suite bathroom and a lobby.

Wheat Chamber

First of the magnificent tower rooms, this fine circular room has twin beds (or king-size double) and superb views across the river Glaven and the marshes.

This room has an en-suite bathroom and electric fireplace.

Wheel Room

This is the newest room to be converted and is only for the adventurous, fit in mind and body!

It is accessed by a steep carpeted ladder from the landing outside the Stone Room. It can either be booked on its own or with the Stone Room. These two rooms, though entirely separate and with their own ensuite facilities, can together make a highly unusual and uniquely characterful suite at the very top of the Windmill.

The Wheel Room has the most spectacular views of any in the entire windmill. There are four windows, each with a different panoramic view. The room has a wonderful four-poster oak bed, a basin and loo in the bedroom itself and a fully equipped shower-room on the floor above (again accessed by a ladder). Guests using this highly unusual room would need to bring their luggage in small cases suitable for lifting up the access stairs. Once in this wonderful room, no-one can deny that you have lived the true ‘windmill experience’.

In order to confirm your booking you will be asked to read, agree and sign a ‘Waiver Form’.

Please be aware that this room is for adults only. No one under the age of 16 is allowed.

Miller’s Room

Lived in by the last miller and his wife, the Miller’s Room is a pretty double bedroom with hand painted furniture and wood panelled walls, offering views of the Mill’s walled garden and the reeds beyond.

It has an en-suite bathroom on the ground floor of the Windmill.

Long House

The refurbishment of this long, flint-walled building has recently been completed to provide a warm, private suite.

Step through your own front door, leaving wellies on the slate-floored lobby, and on into the cosy sitting room with leather sofa and flatscreen TV.

Pass the slate-lined wet-room with views out over the marshes and the river Glaven, to the deeply cushioned king-size four poster bed from Indigo furniture.

Boat House

Step through your own front door into a double bedroom with vaulted wooden ceiling and deeply cushioned king-size four poster bed.

Comfy sofa, décor and rugs make this a bright and stylish room with flat-screen TV.

And your furry friends can enjoy this room too as it is pet-friendly!

The Boat House has an en-suite bathroom and a glazed stable door opening onto the courtyard and looks out over the Mill itself.

The original dovecote has been converted into a snug flint-walled cottage with its own front door.

It has a living area on the ground floor, with open plan kitchen, a master bedroom (twin or king size double bed) and bathroom. Stairs lead to a mezzanine gallery where there is a double bed under a vaulted wooden ceiling.

The Dovecote has views of the Mill and is adjacent to the Mill’s walled garden.

Drop-off dining is available from Bayfield Catering, and Back To Your Place – their food’s delicious and available seven nights per week. It’s brought to your door on our own Cley Windmill earthenware plates and can be enjoyed in your room, our candlelit circular dining room by the roaring fire, or even (English weather permitting) on our romantic decking platform hidden deep in the reed-beds …..  Ring us for details.

The Old Cart Shed

The Old Cart Shed is the latest and most luxurious addition to the windmill portfolio of unique and romantic rooms.

Very large and spacious, with vaulted oak beamed ceilings, the most sumptous oak four poster you’ll ever have seen,  oriental rugs, lovely antiques, and fabulous lighting.  Newly-fitted shaker kitchenette, tiled shower room, and oak staircase to quirky and cosy mezzanine reading area which can double as sleeping area for 2 (open-plan).

Characterful flagstone floor with under-floor heating and ceiling dormers with views of the night skies and windmill sails.  Sunset views through large glass doors to the harbour, river and reedbeds.

Not really surprising that Cley Windmill has been nationally recognised as one of the romantic places to stay in the UK by the Telegraph and Top 50 Cool Places by the Times.

Please note the fire place is purely for effect and not in use.
