For All Guests – The hazards of staying in an old windmill.

I understand that if I am staying in, or visiting, Cley Windmill and its outhouses, it will involve some element of risk, due to it being an historic building, with many different levels, steps and narrow corridors, as well as being next to a tidal river. I am prepared to accept this risk.

In consideration of my stay in Cley Windmill, I, for myself, my heirs, executors, administrators and / or successors, hereby waive any actions or claims of any nature that I have or might in the future have against Cley Windmill, its staff, management and owners and I further agree to hold harmless any and all organizational and individual participants in the above property against all damages of any kind, to persons or property, growing out of or resulting from my stay in Cley Windmill. By signing this document I certify that I have received information about the dangers involved and I understand that my safety is my responsibility.

I acknowledge that I have read, understood, and agreed to the above waiver, release, and indemnity.

If guests are under the age of 18, signature is by responsible adult.

For guests staying in the Wheel Room, Cley Windmill

The Wheel Room has the most spectacular views of any in the entire windmill. There are four windows, each with a different panoramic view. This room is only for the adventurous, fit in mind and body. This room is accessed by a steep but sturdy ladder from the landing outside Stone Room. Because of this and because of the risk-averse culture we live in sadly, we need you to confirm in writing that you are up for the challenge!
Guests using this highly unusual room would need to bring their luggage in small cases suitable for lifting up the access stairs. Once in this wonderful room, no-one can deny that you have lived the true 'windmill experience'.

Please read and sign below:

I understand that The Wheel Room involves some element of risk and I am prepared to accept this risk. The risk includes the possibility of injury on the steep ladder that is the only means of access to this room. I will climb the ladder slowly and carefully and use the hand rail appropriately. I will not attempt this manoeuvre when under the influence of alcohol.

Once in the room, I will be aware of the trap door (square hole in the floor) and will take care to shut the door quietly, avoiding trapped fingers. I am aware that there is a long drop to the floor below and will avoid falling down through the open trap door.

At night I will also be aware that there are people sleeping in the room below and I will make every effort to be as quiet as possible I am aware that on stormy nights, the noise of the wind may be strong – ear plugs are available if required .

I am aware that the fire escape from The Wheel Room is down the entrance ladder.

I am aware of all of the above risks and absolve Cley Windmill, its owners and managers from all responsibility relating to those risks outlined above.

I am not signing my life away by putting my signature on this waiver and statement of risk form – I am simply taking responsibility for my own safety.
